METALLICA - BEYOND MAGNETIC

For those for you that may have heard Metallica's "Death Magnetic", which was truly an album that redeemed and pulled them back out of the black hole of metal that often consumes many metal bands that achieve metal stardom and then self destruct in a parody of themselves, "Beyond Magnetic" are the tracks that never made the "Death Magnetic" album.

Sadly we at Global Rock can't really understand why these tracks never actually made the grade for "Death Magnetic" as some of the tracks on this "E.P." are probably better than some of the tracks that were selected for "Death Magnetic"! Whether it is worth the £4.99 or so is debatable, but hey we guess you gotta make money somewhere for your work! right?

The first track "Hate Train" is probably a shining example of what should of been on "Death Magnetic". The second track "Hell and back" has a groove all of its own and is reminiscent of the "Load" era but with a more up to date punk sound. "Just a bullet away" again has a groove all of it's own with it's clever arrangement and not forgetting to mention the last track "Rebel of Babylon" which has it's own thrash / punk identity, all are identifiable songs but the interesting part about all these songs is that the Metallica of old shines through them all in a very apparent way, and a way that speaks of "..And justice for all". Metallica have brought back the arranging of old which they are unmistakable for, which leads us to the thought that maybe Metallica or whoever makes the decisions in Metallica could be getting it wrong or trying not to risk alienating there more basic followers, as the die hard Metallica fan would surely welcome and celebrate that they have returned to the spin of old school metal.

Still with all this aside the "E.P." deserves, we think at least, a respectable 8/10 horns and again as we tend to always say! probably worth parting money for.

Track List:

Fear Factory "The Industrialist" review

Well! although Fear Factory is a more, shall we say "commercial" band than they used to be, they still retain their underground status in our opinion. Which still gives them a lot of street cred.

After listening to the new album "The Industrialist", containing 10 bone crunching tracks, the verdict is clear in this album in our opinion, that simply Fear Factory are back on form!

A few years back Dino Cazares (guitars) departed from Fear Factory due to disputes in the band, Dino was an integral part of Fear Factory's sound also there awesome song writting and arranging. With band lineup changes Fear Factory seem to loose there way little which I'm sure all bands do at some point.

But not to Fear!....Fear Factory return to riffs as chunky as a yorkie bar from Cazares and Burton C. Bell's angry ass vocals and Gregorian melodic backing vocal passages, and not to forget the type writer sounding kick drums tapping away and ambient movements returning the VERY satisfying, identifiable and unmistakable force that Fear Factory were and still are.

Here at GLOBAL ROCK we give it a very satisfying and well deserved 9/10 horns and is well worth parting with your money for!
